1. Do I need a visa to go to Canada?
Most foreign students will need a Study Permit to study in Canada. However
If you wish to study a short-term course or program with a duration of six
months or less you do not need a Study Permit. You must complete the course
or program within the period authorized for your stay in Canada.
Students from the following countries
will require a Temporary Resident
Visa to enter Canada. This is an official document issued
by a visa office abroad. It is placed in your passport
to show that you have met the requirements for admission
to Canada as a temporary resident.
To apply
for a visa please refer to the nearest Canadian
Consulate. Many visa offices have specific local instructions
concerning the documentation to be submitted with applications.

2. What documents do I need to present upon arrival
in Canada?

3. Is Canada a safe country?
Yes, Canada has been designated by UNESCO as one
of the best countries in the world to live in, and one of
the safest.

Spring: 14 degrees Celsius

5. What is Toronto's population?
Approximately, 3 million people. It is Canada's largest
city.
6. How good is the public transportation system
in Toronto?
Toronto has an excellent public transportation system.
It includes a Subway, Streetcars and Buses. We always recommend
to buy a “Fare-saver”, that allows
its holder to do unlimited travels within the system for a whole month. The “Fare-saver” costs
$97CAD and can be purchased during the first five days of each month.
7. What is Age of Majority in Canada?
The Age of Majority varies from one Province to another. In Ontario and British
Columbia, the Age of Majority is 19 years.
8. How much money should
I bring with me?
This depends on the length of your course. You should consider your expenses
for public transportation -$97CAD per month- plus other personal expenses,
which could total around $300CAD per month. Remember that if you join the
homestay program, this will include three daily meals.
9. How far in advance
should I book my course?
You should book your course at least 15 to 75 days before the starting date,
depending on the country you are coming from. Students coming from certain
countries need a visa to be able to come to Canada. When a course lasts longer
than 6 months, a Student Visa is required for every student.
10. How long before my
course starts should I come to Canada?
In most cases, one or two days before is enough. As your course will begin
on a Monday, you can arrive to Toronto the Saturday or Sunday before.
11. Can I open a bank
account in Toronto?
Yes, but only when your course lasts more than 3 months. KEY2CAREERS has an
agreement with the Royal Bank for these cases.
12. Can I get a job in Canada?
Unfortunately, no. Foreign students must have a valid work authorization if
they wish to work in Canada. After completing studies the students have to
apply for a work permit before they can work
13. What is the main
criteria of the Visa officer to grant a visa?
The Visa Officer has to be satisfied that you will leave
Canada by the end of the period authorized for your stay.
So you have to convince them of following:
That you are sufficiently well established in your country
of residence.
Your proposed studies are reasonable in light of your previous
studies and/or employment and your future prospects.
Your parents have sufficient income
and assets to justify your proposed studies.You have to
show a minimum of CDN$10000 per year of living expenses per year +

14. What is the average living
cost per month?
Students generally opt for Homestay
which costs around $800 per month & includes breakfast. Other Students rent a
sharing room which costs $400 per month. Students generally
require $800 to $1000 per month as Room rent, living expenses & transportation.

1. What kind of activities does KEY2CAREERS offer?
KEY2CAREERS offers social, tourist and sporting activities through its Special
Activities Department.
2. Are these activities supervised by KEY2CAREERS?
Yes. Whenever you do a special activity coordinated by KEY2CAREERS, a representative
of the school will be always with you. 3. Can I join all the special activities?
Yes. All you need to do is to book the activities with enough notice and pay
the corresponding fees, where applicable.
4. Are these activities included in the price I pay for my program?
No the activity prices are not included.
About the Homestay
1. How do you choose the families the students will live with?
KEY2CAREERS has a Homestay Department to take care of that. Its work is to
carefully choose the families who are going to receive our students. The
selection process is very strict and the families must fulfill specific requirements
in order to be selected.
2. What kind of families are those?
Usually, they are typical middle class families who live in safe neighborhoods
and are as close to KEY2CAREERS as possible. Also, homestay families speak
English only in the home.
3. Are there any rules in the homestays?
Yes. As in any normal house, each family has its own rules and they must be
observed. The rules are simple, for example: “dinner is served at 7pm, if
you can't make it please call and let them know”; “don't make any phone calls
after 10:30 pm”, etc.
4. Does KEY2CAREERS have a written guide for these rules
Yes. On your first day of class KEY2CAREERS will give you an instruction manual
where you will find useful information about the school, your program and
your homestay. If you have any questions, you can ask an KEY2CAREERS counselor
anytime while you are at school.
5. How far away are the homestay families from KEY2CAREERS?
The average distance is 30 minutes, using public transportation. Remember that
the public transportation system in Toronto is punctual.
6. Can I change my homestay if I don't feel comfortable where I am?
Yes. You only need to talk to the Homestay Coordinator and explain your situation.
If it is an emergency, the change will be done immediately. Otherwise, you
will have to wait around two weeks until we find a new family for you to
live with.
7. Are there any costs related to this change?
No. As long as you do it within the required time and following the regular
procedures.
8. Does KEY2CAREERS offer residence accommodation?
Yes. But you need to make your reservation with enough advance notice, so that
we can have the time to find something for you. Remember that living in a
residence does not include your daily meals. |
